Paper Mache Birds

For the upcoming 'Heart the Art' Tuatara Rock has begun making their Paper Mache Birds inspired by art from Barbara Kobylinksa. We began by filling our bottles with sand so that they won't tip over. We then formed the neck and began our paper mache. PERSISTENCE has been the key word for making something with paper mache!

Mrs Innes kept on saying "another layer". Once our necks were strong enough we added the heads, beaks and crests. Keep watching for updated photos because we still haven't finished.

Glowworms and their Seagulls

This term the Glowworms reading group read a journal story about some children learning to sew Seagulls. The boys followed the instructions and have hand stitched their own Seagull wall hangings.

From drawing a design and pattern, cutting out the pattern and then the pieces of material to hand stitching each piece. Have a look at these nearly completed seagulls. Aren't they amazing! I am very proud of their persistence and you can see the care they put in. They really stretched their brains as they learnt a new skill. 

Elgrego the Magician

A few weeks ago Elgrego the Magician came to school to do a show. It was very exciting with lots of fun magic tricks and funny characters. We learnt that we need to be HERO's and stand up to bullying.

Room 8 and 14 - Paradise

Maths in Tuatara Rock

Each week we start with a maths problem written as a story. We discuss the words in the story that give us clues on how we could solve the problem. Then work with a partner or small group using our whiteboards and maths equipment to solve it. The first part of this weeks problem was this ... 

Our local Pizza Place has only two tables but they are quite big. If each table holds 7 people, how many people can be seated altogether?

The Chicken N Chips next door to the Pizza Place also has two identical tables. 

The Chicken N Chips can seat 16 people. How many people can sit at each table?

Football Skills

This term we are learning football skills. Each week for the next 5 weeks Chris is going to be coming out and teaching us skills through fun games. Last week we learnt about spreading out on the field. This week we learnt about passing to someone on our team to get a goal.

It is a lot of fun.

EASTER HATS

On the last day of the term we made Easter hats and had a parade to show the other children in Harakeke our wonderful creations. The children really put on their 'thinking hats' when they came up with their creative designs.
