The Elves and the Shoemaker

Wow what a great play. Our actors read with such clear voices and expression. They moved around and showed through their body language when they were surprised and excited. They had learnt their lines and didn't always need to read from the book. What a great job, the audience was so impressed!

Our Finished Birds

After lots of patience, and persistence our birds made it to the Art from the Heart. I am very proud of the children's efforts and how they worked hard to get them finished, and what an amazing job.

Have you made it to Art from the Heart?

Here are a few photos of Tuatara Rock's art in our school art exhibition.
Coming soon are some photos of our individual finished pieces.

Learning about Speech Marks

Last week we looked at where to put speech marks. We watched a story called "Good New, Bad News" with no sound and thought about what each character might be saying. Then we worked in teams to figure out where to put the speech marks using macaroni. It was very hard to keep it on the paper! Mrs Innes tried to trick us by having some sentences with no speech in them, but we found them!

Our Trip to the Art Gallery

We first looked at the work of Bill Sutton and his use of light and shadow to create landscapes of the Port Hills. There were a series of work with lots of sketches and paintings Te Tihi o Kahukura also known as Castle Rock.

We then went to look at and discuss a selection of landscape paintings from the Gallery’s collection and chose the one that we enjoyed the most. Afterwards we looked at two works by Bridget Riley inspired by Georges Seurat. These were made using 'dots' of paint. When we were close up we could see the 'dot's but when we moved further back we couldn't.

The technique is called Pointillism. It is a technique of painting in which small, distinct dots of colour are applied in patterns to form an image. We then went back to give it a go ourselves in the art studio.
